Ben and Ricky Update
Monday, September 11, 2005

Today the ADA staff took us on a guided tour of Tokyo with a stop at some very nice pet shops. We saw the Tokyo tower and went up in it, a temple with literally about 400 shops around it, the Imperial Palace, and the famous shopping district of Ginza.

We went to two pet shops. The first was the most amazing I have ever seen. Multiple prize winning quality aquascapes were in the store and many of the fish holding tanks were somewhat aquascaped. The selecton of plants was unreal. Every common, every red, every rare plant you could about think of. Look at the pictures. The second pet shop was very nice but much smaller. There were some great aquascapes and a 6 foot ADA display tank that they were in the process of setting up.

Tonight Ricky went out with Oliver, the Polish guys, and some other people. I had a headache from trying to talk German and Japanese, so I stayed in the hotel and relaxed.

I don't have Ricky's pics yet. I hope to get some of them up once I get home.

A small tank with various plants. It's hard to see in this pic, but one stem ranges from 900 to 1,000 yen.... which is about 9-10 dollars!! This is the station where fish are packaged and planted tank things are prepared. Here this guy is attaching Riccia to a stone. Believe it or not, here are some emersed Crypts for sale.

More emersed Crypts This is a nano tank. About 6" x 6". Pogostegmon helferi. This is a plant that you can get on Aquabid. Grows miserabley slow and no one has figured out how to put it in an aquascape. Here you go.

This is the owner of the second pet shop we went to. He had a high ranking entry in the ADA Layout Competition a couple years ago. It is a very unique and beautiful aquascape that I'm sure many of you may remember. I'll try to scan it when I get home.
