Plant collecting trip, Sep 24, 2005

David spotted this Bacopa flower. The plant was growing about 3 feet from the water probably in an area that gets flooded.

Close up of the flower. I think it was actually bluer and not that white but my camera may have been set to shoot weird spectrum aquarium lights, not a nice overcast day like the day of the trip. In any case the Bacopa and the flower are beautiful. One can probably grow it on a pot on the window sill.

Behind Pieter there is a nice spread of Potamogeton with elyptic floating leaves. Potamogeton is also a common US plant and it has many varieties. They have the general appearance of a stem plant with semi-transparent "jell-o" green or brown leaves with reticulated veins. Very beautiful and underrated plants!

Locally collected Potamogeton (thanks Pieter!) in one of my tanks.

A common sight in Texas is Hydrocotile. Given good environment it forms umbrella like leaves that are about 5-7 inches in diameter as we saw in Mike Cameron's pond 2 or so years ago.

This flawed stone had a writing on the side: "Ricky was here and aquacaped rocks to avoid boredom.". There were also a lot of beer cans around.

According to David this is some kind of Hygrophila but we could not identify it better than that. I have some of it in my tanks now and we'll see what will come out of that.

The water was full of these small fish as well as some other fish species that we couldn't catch. Just swing the tiny aquarium net and you catch the small ones. Pieter said he got some of these fish but they ate only live food. There were also turtles with long "noses" and we saw a water snake.
